The 14th Pacific Structural Steel Conference was held on Jeju,Korea
The 14th Pacific Structural Steel Conference (ISSS-PSSC 2025) was held on Jeju, Korea from November 19 to 22, 2025. Organized by the Korean Society of Steel Construction(KSSC), this prominent international gathering attracted more than 340 researchers, academics, and technical professionals from 11 countries and regions to exchange insights on industry advancements.

The opening ceremony of ISSS-PSSC 2025 was held on November 20. Cheol-Ho Lee, Chairman of the ISSS-PSSC 2025 Forum, Sanghyun Choi, President of KSSC, and Jung-sik Kong, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, delivered opening speeches. They extended warm welcome and sincere greetings to the international experts, scholars, and engineering professionals in the field of steel structures who had gathered from around the world. In their addresses, they emphasized that the Pacific Structural Steel Conference serves as an important platform for global professionals to share the latest technological achievements and discuss key industry trends. They expressed their hope that this conference would act as a bridge for gathering wisdom and sharing innovation, and promote the development of the steel structure industry.

During the conference, a series of distinguished speakers took the stage to present their latest work. Ohjoon Kwon, former CEO and Chairman of POSCO Group (Korea); Osman Ozbulut, Professor at the University of Virginia (USA); Takashi Yamaguchi, Professor at Osaka Metropolitan University (Japan); Shi Gang, Professor at Tsinghua University (China); Gregory MacRae, Professor at the University of Canterbury (New Zealand); and Milan Veljkovic, Professor at TU Delft (Netherlands) delivered presentations on topics including Tracing the Journey of Humanity Through the Lens of Steel, Resilient Design of Steel Structures Using Shape Memory Alloy-Based Seismic Protection Technologies, Emerging Research Topics on Connections and Joints in Steel Bridge Members in Japan, Triple Grades Hybrid High-Performance Steel Structure (TGHSS): Concept, Research, and Design, Some Considerations for Seismic Design of Steel Structures, Composite floor systems for long spans. Their speeches provided in-depth sharing of cutting-edge research and insights into industry development trends.

The organizing committee arranged 20 parallel sessions, 12 of which were chaired or co-chaired by Chinese scholars. These presentations and discussions closely tracked the latest industry frontiers and engineering practices, covering a wide range of critical areas, including steel structure connection innovation, high-strength steel structure application, seismic design of steel structures and composite structures, etc. The sessions provided a professional platform for targeted dialogue and efficient communication among attendees. By delving into fundamental theories while sharing practical engineering cases, they fully demonstrated the diverse research directions and dynamic technological innovation within the global steel structure community.

During the conference, the delegation of CSCS held exchanges with its counterparts, including the KSSC, JSSC, and TSSS, to explore future cooperation within the global steel structure industry.
