Dutch Steel Structure Industry Delegation Visits CSCS

On April 15, 2026, Dutch steel industry delegation jointly organized by Bouwen met Staal and SNS visited CSCS. The two sides held in-depth exchanges on topics including the technological development of the steel structure industry and collaborative innovation, building a bridge of cooperation for the high-quality development of the steel structure industry in China and the Netherlands.

Li Qingwei, Secretary-General of CSCS, extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He elaborated on the organizational structure and development history of CSCS, and comprehensively expounded on the development status, technological breakthroughs and industry prospects of China’s steel structure with industry data and typical cases.

Subsequently, Frank Maatje, managing director of Bouwen met Staal, gave a thorough introduction to the development status and green vision of the Dutch steel structure industry. He noted that with a history of 65 years, Bouwen met Staal has long been committed to the promotion of steel structure knowledge, technical research and policy advocacy, with a service network covering universities, design institutions, engineering companies and upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain. During the discussion, Frank Maatje focused on the practical application of circular construction, low-emission steel products and the second-generation Eurocodes, aiming to drive the steel structure industry toward low-carbon transformation and sustainable development.

Shi Gang, Deputy Secretary-General of CSCS and Professor at Tsinghua University, delivered a special report titled From Delft to Tsinghua: Research and Impact in the Field of Steel Structures, sharing his in-depth achievements and academic insights in steel structure research. In the discussion session, the two sides had lively exchanges on such topics as steel structure technologies and carbon emissions.

This visit established a sound exchange platform for the steel structure industries of China and the Netherlands. Both sides agreed that against the backdrop of global green and low-carbon development, the steel structure industry boasts unique advantages in energy conservation, emission reduction and resource recycling, with broad prospects for future development. Taking this exchange as an opportunity, the two sides will further strengthen communication and cooperation in technical research, standard alignment, industrial coordination and other fields, and jointly promote the high-quality and sustainable development of the steel structure industries in China and the Netherlands.
